Game of the Week: New Orleans Breakers at Birmingham Stallions

Our Expert Predictions:

Jeremy Piper : New Orleans Breakers
Their losing streak is misleading. They will win this week.

Mary Moore : Birmingham Stallions
When you think of the players that will be on the field, it is likely that Daniel Cordell - C will be a key figure in this game. The Stallions offense relies on him. If they lose this one, I will never hear the end of it.

Jim Nox : New Orleans Breakers
This will be a tough game and that is where playing as a team comes in. They will need to rely on people such as Christian Hedges - QB and Howard Carlson - LB who are great at coordinating and making sure everyone is doing the right thing on the field. There will be a lot to dissect after this game.

Darren Francis : New Orleans Breakers
For difficult games like this you need leaders. Leaders in the locker room and leaders on the field. When I look at the Breakers players like Michael Chaffin - CB, Zachary Hernandez - DT and Joseph Fox - C stand out in that regard. They will put up a lot of points.

Moore and Nox Mock Draft

Pick 1: Arizona Hot Shots
Larry Moore: Arthur Mansfield - QB
This is a player who takes the lead. Here you have a kid who puts in the work to succeed. Well liked in the locker room. Top tier play diagnostics and field vision. If a pass goes incomplete, more often that not, it is the receiver who did not catch it. His insane ball velocity leaves the ball in the air for such a short time. They almost have to make this pick. You do not want to look back in five years and see this kid on another team knowing he could have been yours.

Jim Nox: Lewis Ward - LB
This kid puts in the work. I want this kid on my team. He understands his role on the field, and how it fits in with what everyone else is doing. His good natured behavior, even toward opponents have earned him some criticism, but also an awful lot of respect. Known for his tackling. He would blow up players every week in college. He hits with great force and technique. Really strong for a Linebacker. This is something that teams love. So fast. You could drop him into coverage if you wanted. If you miss your block on this guy, he will be in the face of the QB before he has even finished dropping back. Some might say this is a 'need' pick, but we must remember, this is a really good player as well. He will contribute early and often. No losers here.

Pick 2: San Antonio Brahmas
Larry Moore: Will Sumner - QB
A real leader! Known among his teammates as a hard worker. Sportsmanship, love of the sport and respect, is what you get with him. His understanding of the game is phenomenal. Consistently delivers the ball on target. What you get with this kid is an elite arm. Do not be afraid to draft a position of need here. This kid is well worthy of a pick this early. Perfect situation for him, and great fit for the team.

Jim Nox: John Elliott - LB
Knows what it takes to achieve success at any level. He plays well with others. He understands there is a reason for each assignment on every play. This is a kid, where if you are winning he will shine, but he might have trouble with adversity. A great tackler. Consistent. Amazing strength for the position. Makes him versatile, and tells of his high ceiling. Offenses will need to keep tabs on him. He will close down fairly quickly if left unblocked. They need him now. Well yesterday actually. They will love him tomorrow. They will revere him by the end of his career.

Pick 3: New Orleans Breakers
Larry Moore: Lewis Ward - LB
His college coaches talk highly of his work ethic. In addition to his own role, this kid doubles as glue. He makes everyone on the field play as a team. Respected for his good behavior on the field. Wraps up tackles like a veteran. Coaches love this. You can put this guy in there, and no one will run his way. Can bull rush smaller Tight Ends and Fullbacks when blitzing. Coaches love this kind on their Linebackers. When he pins back his ears and goes for the passer he will demand some serious attention from the offensive line. Rock solid player is just what they need. A great fit here, both in terms of need and quality.

Jim Nox: Matthew Lorenz - T
This kid puts in the work. Was among the stronger offensive linemen in college. Driving up his value is his ability to block on run plays. Teams need kids who can hold their own against fully grown men. Protects the QB well on pass plays. You can never have enough good pass blockers. Some might say this is a 'need' pick, but we must remember, this is a really good player as well. He will contribute early and often. No losers here.

Pick 4: St. Louis Battlehawks
Larry Moore: Dane Voss - SS
This kid puts in the work. Has never been known for his speed. But it is not bad. In any case, that is not what they are looking for with this pick. Reliably takes down ball carrier when he gets his hands on him. Plays with great insticts. He can do what they want. He will deliver results early. He fits a need. End of story.

Jim Nox: Dane Voss - SS
This guy understands what it means to be a pro. Enough speed to not be a liability. But cannot be asked to cover speedsters on his own. That is not a problem though, they have other players for that.Goes nice and low on tackles. Well schooled in the game, and it shows on the field. Rock solid player is just what they need. A great fit here, both in terms of need and quality.

Pick 5: Jacksonville Bulls
Larry Moore: Bruce Greenlee - G
He has the strength to throw defenders around, and not just the linebackers. Driving up his value is his ability to block on run plays. Teams need kids who can hold their own against fully grown men. Pass blocking against professional players makes for a difficult transition from college. But the tape indicates he will do well in that regard. Fill a need, get a quality player, everyone wins! He will fit right in with the pros.

Jim Nox: Bruce Greenlee - G
This is a young man who will bench press a Defensive Tackle, and not a small one! This kid is already a pretty good blocker in the running game. He will only get better as he refines his technique. He has shown in college he can hold his own in pass blocking. He keeps good leverage and will only get better once the coaches get their hands on him. He fills a need for them. Great pick here.

Pick 6: Los Angeles Express
Larry Moore: John Elliott - LB
Due to his work ethic, this kid is very coachable. I want this kid on my team. He understands his role on the field, and how it fits in with what everyone else is doing. He wants to win! He has a well developed tackling technique. Coaches like that. This guy is pure muscle. He will shed blocks and hit he hole on run plays. Will never become a speed rush specialist, but has sufficient speed to become a prototype Defensive End. Solid talent that fits their needs. Really that is all there is to it. Perfect situation. Take the money and run.

Jim Nox: Howard Carlson - LB
This kid breeds synergy, teams play better when he is on the field. He is driven by the love of the sport. This is not the kind of player who gives up or abandons his friends when things get tough. No nonsense tackler. The muscles on this kid allows him to shed blocks and keep contain. Scouts all say his speed is not a problem, he plays way faster than his forty time. This guy is available. This guy fills a need. They have to take him. It makes so much sense.

Pick 7: DC Defenders
Larry Moore: Matthew Lorenz - T
Here is a kid who no one doubts will put in the work. Was among the stronger offensive linemen in college. Scouts love his understanding for opening running lanes in the running game. He can hold his own in the passing game. Will improve once he finetunes his technique, but he is already pretty good. He can do what they want. He will deliver results early. He fits a need. End of story.

Jim Nox: John Jordon - DE
Here is a kid who no one doubts will put in the work. He is driven by the love of the sport. This is not the kind of player who gives up or abandons his friends when things get tough. Teams are looking for players who will not break contain. This young man is strong enough to stay on his feet against grown men on the offensive line. Rarely do we call defensive linemen sideline to sideline defenders, but this kid is so fast the term almost applies. It is clear from his tape, that he wraps up well on tackles. When the available talent fits what you need, there is reason to celebrate. They are getting a great talent who will serve them for many years.

Pick 8: Seattle Sea Dragons
Larry Moore: Frank Laird - QB
This is a player who takes the lead. 'Team player', this is the correct term for him. He makes everyone around him better. Here you have a guy, who really benefits the atmosphere in the building. Everyone wants to be around him. Plays with intelligence. Coaches do not have to worry about making him throw any route. Delivers with zip. Might not be what fans want, but there is a reason people are getting paid to make these decisions. This is a rock solid pick, and he fits what they are looking for. Fans will come around quickly once they see him play.

Jim Nox: Arthur Mansfield - QB
A leader on the field and in the locker room. Here you have a kid who puts in the work to succeed. This is a kid who really contributes to the team spirit and the social cohesiveness on the team. His understanding of the game is way above what you would expect of a kid this young. If a pass goes incomplete, more often that not, it is the receiver who did not catch it. His great arm strength allows him to control the ball trajectory perfectly. High, long and soft? No problem! Low and hard like a bullet? Also no problem! This guy is available. This guy fills a need. They have to take him. It makes so much sense.

Pick 9: Philadelphia Stars
Larry Moore: John Jordon - DE
Here is a kid who no one doubts will put in the work. Sportsmanship, love of the sport and respect, is what you get with him. He never gives up on his coaches and teammates. He keeps fighting for them even when others give up. Has sufficient strength to play with the big boys in the pros. Deceptively fast, will make you dizzy with his speed rush. Consistent tackler. They should not be afraid to fill a need here. He will start day one. Quality pick right here.

Jim Nox: Stanton Carter - T
Coaches love the leadership skills in this kid. Known for showing up early and staying late. I want this kid on my team. He understands his role on the field, and how it fits in with what everyone else is doing. If you go to his tape, you will se he run blocks very well. Pass blocking against professional players makes for a difficult transition from college. But the tape indicates he will do well in that regard. People always say you should not prioritize needs over quality. That is not an issue here, they get to have their cake and eat it too.

Pick 10: Michigan Panthers
Larry Moore: Stanton Carter - T
This is a player who takes the lead. Known for showing up early and staying late. Teammates love him. All he cares about is the team. He helps everyone succeed. This is a guy who is already a pretty good blocker in the run game. He can hold his own in the passing game. Will improve once he finetunes his technique, but he is already pretty good. They need players at the position, and good ones at that. He fits the bill, he is worth the pick. End of story.

Jim Nox: James Cason - C
Here you have a kid who puts in the work to succeed. Football is a team sport, and he knows it. Here is a kid who will go through fire for his coaches and teammates. Has impressed scouts with his strength. Coaches love strength, it gives him a high ceiling. This kid is already a pretty good blocker in the running game. He will only get better as he refines his technique. He can hold his own in the passing game. Will improve once he finetunes his technique, but he is already pretty good. With this kid, this is a need pick they will not regret.
